For our group practice, we decided to start familiarizing ourselves with the way music videos need to be dealt with. We wanted to be able to start smoothly making in-camera transitions from the get-go as we all knew we were going to add them to our final product.
For this practice, we chose Ava Max's Salt which has a very bold sound and up-front lyrics. To match the song, we decided to add whip-pans to switch from one clip to the other. I volunteered to be the subject as everyone was most comfortable with me being in front of the camera as they say I have good control over my facial expressions, which was good enough for us to seriously practice on.
In this short task, we were to film for the first 2 lyrics and were able to add 2 whip-pan transitions in the 21 seconds we used. The video can be viewed here.
After this exercise, we were definitely getting the hang of the movements required for a good quality transition. It definitely took a few tries but this was 100% necessary and I personally think we should keep trying more and new creative transition techniques as it would immensely improve the quality of the final music video.
