The Importance of Lighting in Photography

[22/9/22]

Today we used our time used to learn the importance and different types of lighting techniques used in photography. We learned and saw the way the Rembrandt lighting is used to take meaningful pictures. The triangle of light portrays naturalness of the person's face and it was fascinating to see the effects lighting has on the meaning of a media piece.

Our Media Sir had brought in small lighting stands for us to get an general idea of them and to have basic knowledge and practice. We didn't get to have much time with them today however we still were able to take a few practice pictures.

Here in these pictures, we tampered with the exposure on the camera to see how it would change the mood of the pictures. The higher the exposure, the more cozier, warmer the picture felt. However, once the exposure decreased, the tone of the picture was more serious, as if it was a spotlight on something meaningfully important. It was interesting using these lights to investigate these effects.
