In this class, we learned essential tips and tricks to remember when making out final music video, but also normal videos in general.
We were taught there are 3 types of 'Shooting' includes
- narrative based
- performance based
- a mix of both
A few other tips that Sir taught us was
- When filming, always encourage the subject to actually sing and not just lipsync. This way the mouthing of the lyrics look natural and not forced.
- Moreover, the playback should be on loud speakers, not phones. This is because phone volume isn't loud enough for the actors to hear the song clearly. This makes the lip-syncing also more natural and it also makes it easier for the editor to hear the clip's original sound.
- In addition to this, the same version of the song should be played and downloaded so everyone's on the same page.
- Always overshoot! This rule is to start shooting from a few seconds before the desired lyric and to end a few seconds after that part ends. This way cutting and arranging is more smoother. This is called pre-roll and post-roll.
- Plan transition beforehand: This is something Sir is particular about as we students know there really is no time to plan everything as it happens on set. Plus if the budget big, the production would only go to plan once everything is scheduled, settled and arranged.
- Lastly, the importance of LIGHTING!! Lightening can completely change a persons face shape and can highlight necessary parts. It makes the subject appear more clearer in the video.
I was determined to use and apply these valuable tips into creating art in the form of media which could capture the audience's attention and please their eyes.
